Vodafone Apprentice Stakes
10/08/2006At our final attempt to have a winner at Glorious Goodwood, we were beaten a short head! Diktatorial ran for the 2 nd time at the meeting in the Vodafone Apprentice Stakes under Adam Kirby on Saturday. They pulled clear of the rest of the field with the winner just getting up on the line. This performance shows that he is really coming back to his old self again.
Nayyir did not agree with being ran back twice in one week but fortunately he has come out of the race as well as ever.
Our two year old runners at Lingfield last Saturday night all pleased their jockeys. Beauchamp Viceroy ran a fantastic race but ran very green inside the last furlong and finished 2nd. He has various entries for next week at Wolverhampton, Carlisle and Sandown over 5 and 6 furlongs.
We had 3 horses declared to run at Chester last Sunday but due to the lack of rain and the fast ground, they were all withdrawn together with Oscillator who was due to run at Carlisle on Monday evening.
Stark Contrast runs Friday evening at Newmarket. He finished 4 th in what appears to have been a very good maiden at York. Both the 2 nd and 3 rd horses in the race have both gone on to win. He will be ridden by Frankie Dettori.
On Saturday we have two runners at Newmarket. All The Good bids to put his disappointing run at Bath behind him in a 0 – 95 handicap under Steve Drowne. Nimra also runs and should be well suited by the track. She has been placed in 3 of her 4 starts and we are hoping for a good run from her.
To end the day, we have Jafaru running at Lingfield in a one mile maiden. He was travelling very nicely on his debut at Newmarket until Jamie Spencer reported that the bit had slipped through his mouth. This race will be run on the all weather.
We have a number of entries at the beginning of next week, but we will be keeping a close eye on the ground and praying for some rain!
