Trio in action at Lingfield

20/03/2009

It has been a glorious week in Newmarket and we have all been enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather. With the start of the flat season just around the corner, it is not only the weather that is hotting up, with three runners this weekend we are all excited about the action on the turf this summer.

We have three runners at Lingfield on Saturday afternoon. The first BEAUCHAMP VICEROY who runs in the 4:15 At The Races Handicap over one mile four furlongs, for four year olds rated 0-95. Eddie Ahern has returned from his winter in Bahrain to ride.

We have two runners in the final race of the day the 5:25 Colemans Hatch Maiden Stakes over one mile for three year olds and upwards. JUST MUSTARD made a promising debut at Newmarket in October and he should appreciate the all-weather surface at Lingfield. Eddie Ahern has been booked to ride and has been drawn in stall 1 of the 10 runners. JUST LIKE SILK had a rough race on his last start at Great Leighs which was very disappointing. However he had shown a lot promise on his debut at Newmarket and will be partnered by Shane Kelly and has been drawn in stall 10.

It is rare for us to run two horses in the same race but we have done this for the following reasons. JUST MUSTARD is very fit and well and ready to run and we will find out a lot more about him after this run. JUST LIKE SILK while he has been training very nicely, is carrying a lot of condition and this will serve as a prep for a race at Dundalk on the 3rd April.

On Wednesday evening  AGENTE PARMIGIANO made his seasonal bow at Kempton in the ‘Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes’ over one mile one furlong. It was the first time he had run over this trip and a fast pace was set by the leaders over the first two furlongs, before gradually being steadied over the course of the race, which resulted in a sprint in the final furlong. Unfortunately AGENTE PARMIGIANO was tight for room on the rail and was hampered coming off the bend.  However he finished 8th of 14 runners and we were very pleased with his run. The race was won by MAFAAZ trained by John Gosden who narrowly held the impressive SPRING OF FAME who rounded the field with a terrific burst of speed and was beaten by a neck.
