The Season is Underway
18/04/2011
The season is in full swing now and we have lots of horses about to make their 2011 debuts. The ones we’ve run so far have really encouraged us, showing that our string is as forward as any at the moment. Burj Alzain really pleased us at Lingfield on his seasonal bow. He met a little trouble in running at a critical stage but ran on really well. Prince Apollo showed that his Mussleburgh running was all wrong when winning again, this time at Brighton. He’s won twice now this year despite running a little free on easy tracks and meeting traffic problems late on. We might look for an opportunity now at a stiffer course to try and show him in his best light. He’ll be racing again soon and can win again. Rainy Champion’s Mussleburgh form had a solid look and he duly ran up to it when upped in trip at Doncaster. We thought he was a little unlucky this time and his turn will come shortly.
This week we’ll be giving a first run as a three year old to Little Black Book. To date, he’s only had a sighter for experience at Newmarket as a two year old. You’ll see a different horse at Southwell on Wednesday. Maristar will join him there. She’s in a mile handicap and will need every yard but she’s ready to run a very nice race indeed and it’s cut up nicely for her.
And whilst all this early season activity keeps us working at full tilt, we’re also putting the final stages of the plan together for the US team. It’s great to think that all the hard work and planning is so close to realisation now and we’ll soon be there. Andrew Morris will ship the horses on May 4th and arrive in Arlington on the 7th. We can’t wait to get going now.
Fighting on two fronts and the wedding of the year to attend on Tuesday; as Andrew keeps reminding us, we’re ‘busy, busy, busy,’ but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
