Pachattack Makes Us Burst With Pride
05/11/2011
We are all bursting with pride this morning as our stable star Pachattack ran another remarkable race to finish 3rd in the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic last night. The dirt track hadn’t dried out as much as we had hoped and was still a little bit sloppy but I don’t think it hindered her to any extreme. She was slightly outpaced early on and finished in her usual strong fashion. By the looks of things, an extra furlong would have sealed the deal as her jockey, Rajiv Maragh was clearly having trouble pulling her up after the line! It will be an emotional day when she goes under the hammer on Sunday for everyone involved with her but she has been a remarkable addition to my team and has brought massive highs to my training career.
We are all set to go again today with Maristar. She has a similar running style as Pachattack in that she comes home in such a strong fashion in the final furlong. With a bit of the luck the track will have dried out some more by this evening. Rajiv Maragh will be partnering her for the first time and having got used to the style of Pachattack I think he will suit her perfectly and they will make a brilliant team.
Over in the UK, Full Bloom went on to win for the 2nd time this season after a few placed efforts. At the 4 furlong pole we looked to be in a little bit of trouble, but under a strong and well timed ride from Kieran O’Neill she kicked into gear within the last furlong to win going away and in impressive style. She came home very fresh and well in herself and spent all the next morning neighing at the other horses in the yard from her stable!
We have 7 yearlings here at the moment which we are getting stuck into. There are all big and strong looking types and we always enjoy them when they come into the yard. It’s good to get to know horse’s characters and quirks from a young age so you can work with them accordingly.
