MOUNT HADLEY SUCCESS AT CARLISLE

10/07/2009

We made the long journey up to Carlisle last weekend with three runners. STEF AND STELIO had his second race of his career over six furlongs in a maiden auction, under Tony Culhane. Although prominent throughout the race he weakened two furlongs out and will improve with experience. Under a strong ride from Paul Mulrennan MOUNT HADLEY was able to overcome the challenge of the favourite SUNNYSIDE TOM to win a 0-80 handicap by a head. It was a gutsy performance by MOUNT HADLEY and made the trip to Carlisle worthwhile.

BEAUCHAMP WONDER featured in the last, a two mile one furlong maiden handicap.  Paul Hanagan made his challenge on the filly two furlongs from home and looked to have the race won, before coming together with the eventual winner SAXONA close to the line, following a stewards enquiry the result remained unaltered.

On Sunday CONFIDE IN ME ran at Ayr in a 0-65 handicap over one mile one furlong. Royston Ffrench was in the saddle on this occasion and lead throughout the race, however he made too much use of CONFIDE IN ME and he was headed a furlong from home, finishing fourth behind ENSNARE.

BEAUCHAMP VICEROY was impressive in victory at Wolverhampton on Tuesday afternoon in a one mile selling race under Ryan Moore. The odds on favourite was well in control throughout the race and won by ten lengths. It will serve as a huge confidence booster for him.

We had four runners at Newmarket on Wednesday, the first day of the July festival. GOOD AGAIN made her reappearance following a disappointing run at Ascot last month in seven furlong fillies handicap. However she never looked comfortable under Eddie Ahern and was struggling three furlongs from home. Eddie reported that he was not happy with the way she was moving throughout the race, which may explain her poor performance.

NEW INNOCENCE made his track debut in a hotly contested two year old maiden over seven furlongs, under William Buick. Racing in mid division, he made his challenge two furlongs from home and stayed on inside the final furlong to finish sixth. This was a promising debut for the WHERE OR WHEN colt and he has shown a lot of potential.

We had two runners in the one mile two furlong maiden. BEAUCHAMP XERXES under Ryan Moore and TINAAR making her debut under Eddie Ahern. Unfortunately for the second occasion BEAUCHAMP XERXES did not settle and was pulling hard throughout the early stages of the race, before being hampered two furlongs from home and finishing in eighth. However on a brighter note TINAAR made a very promising debut, racing wide on the far rail and making her challenge two furlongs from home, she finished in sixth position and should improve a lot for this run.

We have no runners until Saturday, where we have declared AGENTE PARMIGIANO at Ascot in a seven furlong heritage handicap. Richard Hughes has been booked to ride and has been drawn in stall five in a field of 10 runners. This is a relatively small field for a £50,000 race and this should be a good opportunity for AGENTE PARMIGIANO to return to the winners enclosure.

On Saturday evening ELLIPTICAL has been declared at Salisbury in a 0-85 handicap over one mile, Jim Crowley is in the saddle for the first time and has been drawn in stall five in a field of twelve runners. Fingers crossed there will be no repeat of the niggling injury he sustained prior to his proposed run at Newmarket last month.
