More Speed Less haste for Beauchamp Viceroy

25/02/2011

We were very pleased to see Full Bloom running to a better standard today. We drew a line under her last run and put it down to us running her back too soon after her debut. She was unfortunate today to run into a well backed newcomer of Andrew Balding’s. She will now be given a handicap mark making her eligible to run in handicaps which will open up an awful lot more opportunities but we will be giving her sometime between races and hopefully she can build on today’s performance.

Beauchamp Viceroy is heading to Lingfield tomorrow to run in a 6 furlong Listed event. Although his optimum trip is 7 furlongs, he has won over 6 furlongs, breaking the track record back in 2006. He has been very fresh and well at home so we hope that it will put the extra spring in his step to go that bit quicker than usual! He has the usual headgear on and has a good draw in stall number 3. We will leave tactics up to jockey Neil Callan but I am sure he will like to take a lead.

Beauchamp Viceroy along with stable mate Pachattack were also entered for the Winter Derby this week which is on 26th March at Lingfield. We are very much looking forward to seeing the return of Pachattack to the track after her record breaking run at Woodbine. She has been a very progressive type and has only got better with age. She looks fantastic and has come back from Canada a very confident mare. The Winter Derby’s conditions will suit her down to the ground and we can’t wait to see her in action again.
Depending on Beauchamp Viceroy’s performance tomorrow, we have two further races in the pipe line for him. The first is the “Lady Wilfruna” listed race over 7f on the 12th March at Wolverhampton and the second is the Lincoln trial also on the same day at Wolverhampton. Both races are worth £30k, which is a real rarity these days.

The babies are coming along very nicely at home. They have been cantering upsides for a month or so and are visibly progressing nicely. They have been over to the famous “Choke Jade” grass gallop and been lead by the old maser Nayyir and we are very happy with how they are all shaping up.
