MARISTAR SHINES AT SOUTHWELL

As previously reported we were very pleased with PACHATTACK following her run at Newmarket in the Listed Several Stakes last Friday. She will now be aimed for a Conditions race at Kempton on November 11th over 1m2f as a confidence booster before the Listed Quebec Stakes at Lingfield in December, which we won last year with DANSANT.
We had our first winner at Southwell on Wednesday with MARISTAR, who like PACHATTACK is owned by Michael Deegan, making it third time lucky in a seven furlong maiden fillies race. MARISTAR tracking the early leader, made headway two furlongs from home and stayed on nicely to win comfortably, under Frankie Dettori.
STEF AND STELIO returned to Southwell for a seven furlong 0-85 nursery and found himself up against the well fancied and very well handicapped KARAKA JACK from the Mark Johnston yard. KARAKA JACK made all with STEF AND STELIO chasing the leader, Neil Callan got to work two furlongs from home and held on for second place. STEF AND STELIO got a little tired in the final stages of the race, but this was a good run and he will improve again.
We have two runners on Friday, the first being RESPECTFILLY who has her first start at Doncaster in a one mile fillies maiden. William Buick has been booked to ride, but we shall be watching the weather very closely over the next 24 hours as more rain is forecast. Gerard is not too keen on running her for the first time on very soft ground.
CONFIDE IN ME returns to the all weather at Wolverhampton on Friday night, in a one mile 0-55 handicap. Hayley Turner has been booked to ride and we are hoping a change in tactics will help his cause.
On Saturday we send SWISS CROSS to Doncaster for a seven furlong nursery to be partnered again by Kieren Fallon. SWISS CROSS has continued to show improvement and won comfortably over this trip last time out. Again the weather is of concern over the next 48hrs with heavy rain forecast on Saturday morning. Should the ground not be suitable there is a novice race over seven furlongs at Lingfield on November 5th.
