JUST LIKE SILK dazzles at Newbury
20/08/2009
Last Friday DANEHILL INTELLECT made her debut at Kempton in a seven furlong maiden fillies race. Under Adam Kirby DANEHILL INTELLECT made an encouraging start to her career, making steady progress from a wide draw and finishing sixth behind the Godolphin filly DAMIETTA.
On Saturday we sent three runners to Newbury, with DANSANT in Group company in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes over one mile five furlongs. Under Eddie Ahern DANSANT was held in touch and was dropped in seven furlongs out having suffered interference on the bend. Making headway three furlongs out, DANSANT looked to challenge but could not reach the leaders and finished fifth. Eddie Ahern blamed the fast ground for his performance. We were disappointed but we have the Breeders Cup Marathon to look forward to in the autumn.
BEAUCHAMP VICEROY also featured on the card, running in a seven furlong 0-95 handicap. Also partnered by Eddie Ahern, BEAUCHAMP VICEROY led throughout but was headed in the final furlong and finished unplaced.
JUST LIKE SILK returned to action in last race on the card, a 0-80 one mile four furlong handicap for lady amateur riders. We were pleased to have the services of Serena Brotherton in the saddle for the first time. JUST LIKE SILK tracked the leaders before running clear inside the final two furlongs, winning comfortably by four lengths. Hopefully this signifies a return to form for JUST LIKE SILK and we hope to see him in the winner’s enclosure again soon.
SALADIN’S VOW made his debut at Newmarket in a six furlong maiden, under Jim Crowley. Held in the rear, SALADIN’S VOW was ridden two furlongs from home and appeared to hang under pressure. However this was his first run and he will have learnt a lot from this experience.
On Monday afternoon AGENTE PARMIGIANO returned to Kempton for a seven furlong, 0-100 handicap for three year olds only. Under Shane Kelly, AGENTE PARMIGIANO was held at the rear of the field, before making headway one furlong from home. Unfortunately the line came too soon and AGENTE PARMIGIANO was a very fast finishing fourth.
Our next runner will be on Friday with CONFIDE IN ME running at Wolverhampton in a one mile 0-60 handicap, we have the services of Seb Sanders and have been drawn in stall eight of thirteen runners.
On Saturday we send two runners to Ripon, the first STEF AND STELIO runs in the DBS St Leger Yearling Stakes over six furlongs. Tom Eaves has been booked to ride and hopefully STEF AND STELIO can capitalise on his experience gained so far and we look forward to his run. Our second runner is MONETARY FUND in a one mile one furlong maiden. Pat Cosgrave has been booked to ride and we think is a good opportunity for MONETARY FUND to get on the score sheet.
Our final runner of the weekend is SWISS CROSS at Chester in a six furlongs conditions race with four declared runners. This will be the second run of his career and Eddie Ahern is in the saddle.
