Great Start To The Season
We could not have asked for a better start to the season.
On day one we got straight onto the score board when Zaina won the 1m2f in convincing fashion also picking up a £10,000 Racing Post Bonus.
Her work had shown us that she was going to be a much nicer filly on the turf, so it didn’t come as a massive shock to us when she won. There were still a few small signs of greenness but we are sure these will be ironed out very quickly. She came home from the race well and will be given her usual easy week. Looking ahead, we will have a serious think about running her here at HQ in the Pretty Polly stakes on Guineas weekend. The trip and track will suit her perfectly and it could be a good opportunity to achieve some black type with her. Another race we will think about is the Cheshire Oaks ran a week later at Chester. She seems to travel very strongly so should suit Chester well.
Day two of Doncaster saw a couple of promising runs, noticeably Hallmark Star. He looks to have strengthened up an awful lot over the winter and will be seen at his best over a longer distance. He took the race very well which we are very pleased about. He has been doing steady canters since his run and he looks to be in great shape. We will wait for the handicapper to do his work before we look for another race for him.
Star Date ran a nice race to finish second behind a very smart horse of Michael Bells. Once we know his handicap mark we will plan our next move.
Little Black Book and Nordic Quest will both come on a lot for their run. Little Black Book was having his first race since his injury so he hadn’t been over worked at home. His fitness will have benefited greatly and Nordic Quest will be a lot sharper next time out.
Zain Princess ran another cracking race again on Wednesday to finish a close second with quite a wide margin to the third. The race was ran slowly but her jockey made a positive move during the second half of the race to avoid being caught flat footed. She ran very bravely but unfortunately ran into Mr Gosden’s filly Apothecary again!
She will be entered tomorrow for a similar race at Wolverhampton next Friday. All being well she will run but we will of course be making sure she has come out of this race 100% before considering running her again.
Prince Alzain and Cala Santanyi went to Lingfield for a racecourse gallop this week. We were very happy with how both horses went and it was a great last piece of work before their races.
Cala Santanyi is due to run on Wednesday at Lingfield and Prince Alzain will head for the International Stakes also at Lingfield next Saturday. Both horses came out of the work extremely fresh and well and we are very happy with how they have been training at home.
