ELLIPTICAL to shine on Bank Holiday weekend
28/08/2009
Last Friday evening CONFIDE IN ME was sent to Wolverhampton for a one mile and half a furlong handicap for horses rated 0-60. With Seb Sanders in the saddle, CONFIDE IN ME was held up in mid division until making head way two furlongs out. Unfortunately being tight for room, he weakened in the final stages of the race and could only finish fifth of eleven runners.
On Saturday we had two runners at Ripon, the first being STEF AND STELIO in the DBS ST Leger Yearling Stakes over six furlongs. Tom Eaves held STEF AND STELIO in a prominent position, but he was unable to challenge and finished unplaced.
Later on the card MONETARY FUND was made favourite for the one mile two furlong maiden, under Pat Cosgrave. However despite being prominent throughout and leading from three furlongs out, he was headed on the line and beaten a neck by Mark Johnston’s KNIGHTS VICTORY.
We had two runners yesterday (Thursday), the first being BEAUCHAMP VICEROY in a competitive 0-90 handicap at Southwell. Under William Buick VICEROY was prominent throughout, but was not able to challenge the leaders and the favourite FOOLIN MYSELF won convincingly.
Our second runner MUFTARRES was having his first run on the all-weather at Lingfield in a six furlong, 0-80 handicap. Richard Hughes was in the saddle and had been drawn wide, despite been given a handy ride, he did not appear to handle the surface and finished unplaced.
On Saturday ELLIPTICAL makes the short journey to the July Course, to run in a 0-90 handicap over seven furlongs. Stephen Donohoe will be in the saddle for the first time and we hope ELLIPTICAL will continue his good form and follow on from his win at Salisbury last time out.
We also send MOUNT HADLEY to Beverley for a seven furlong 0-80 handicap, with Neil Callan in the saddle. We are expecting a fast surface at Beverley which isn’t ideal, but feel this is a good opportunity for him.
Our final runner of the weekend will be BEAUCHAMP WIZARD who returns after a long layoff following his win at Kempton in August of last year. He is declared at Goodwood in the Fegentri Amateur handicap over one mile one furlong, for horses rated 0-75. We have drawn Italian amateur Fabio Locatelli in this contest.
