DANSANT UNLUCKY IN BID FOR THE BIG CAP

11/03/2009

Saturday was one of those days where emotions were running in all directions.  After receiving the terrible news regarding BONUS we then had to concentrate on DANSANT in what was going to be a very tough and competitive Santa Anita Handicap. The race is steeped in history and this was the first time that a runner had travelled across the Atlantic purely to compete in the race.

I loved the way DANSANT travelled throughout the race, he really enjoyed the Pro-ride synthetic surface at Santa Anita. At four furlongs out I thought he was going to run a big race, but tragically BLUE EXIT broke down impeding DANSANT. He was able to regain his momentum but met further interference costing us a very valuable placing. I was very proud of his performance and it was a shame we had to come home empty handed for all our efforts.

DANSANT is now back at Cadland, he travelled home on Sunday via Amsterdam and was boxed back to Newmarket. He has taken it all very well. He had his first day of light exercise this morning and I am very pleased with him. We now need to decide where we go from here, Barbara Keller and I feel very strongly that we should play to his strengths and stick to an all-weather surface.
