Can Pachattack Land Us Our First Winter Derby

24/03/2011

We are all very much looking forward to Pachattack’s big day on Saturday as she heads off to Lingfield for the Winter Derby.
Since she returned home from Woodbine she has had a well earned rest before returning to exercise and is now fit and ready for action. It’s a fairly given thing that horses, especially fillies can look slightly “under the weather” this time of year due to the cold climate however Pachattack looks as well as ever. Her coat is gleaming and she has done extremely well physically over the winter months. She has been thriving on her work at home and seems very eager to get back to racing action! Her jockey Neil Callan joined us at Lingfield last week where he had a spin on her and found out where the gears were. This can only be an advantage to both horse and jockey.
The Winter Derby is a tough nut to crack and over the years we have had an array of finishing positions and frustrating runs in it, the best being second. We are quietly confident that Pachattack has the talent and class to land our first Winter Derby

Looking to next week, we are intending to run Rainy Champion, a 3 year old debutant. Having been fairly slow to come to terms with his racing career, the penny has finally dropped and he has come a long way in the past few months. We are very happy with his work at home, he has been going quite nicely and we feel he will display his true talents on the grass. We would expect a promising start from him.

Our runner from last week Sole Bonne Femme finally managed to get his head in front in a selling hurdle at Fakenham!
He must have been in the spirit of Cheltenham! He was given a very confident ride by young Charlie Wallis and jumped very well indeed. He wasn’t claimed after the race so has returned home in pursuit of his next Challenge!

One or two grass gallops are due to be opened by the end of the week which is an indication to the fast approaching grass season. We will be making good use of it whilst the weather allows. Burj Alzain will be one of the first to test the ground as he is ready to start faster training now after his lay off. He is obviously a horse we are very excited about for the forthcoming season along with a few others!
