Busy Weekend

18/05/2012

Our first two year old runner Getaway Car had a nice introduction yesterday at Newmarket. He didn’t make it on to the podium but showed plenty of promise. He showed signs of greenness which is to be expected but ran on well at the finish. He looked a picture in the paddock and looks very well still this morning.
Also having an introduction to racing was three year old Zain Glory. He has taken a while to come to hand after coming from the French Breeze Up sales last year. He raced keenly and used up too much energy early on but he will no doubt learn from the experience and will settle better next time, perhaps over a shorter distance.

We have a busy weekend ahead of us here. Starting the weekends’ proceedings is Prince Alzain who is finally getting an outing after the soft ground has prevented his last two runs. He lines up with 5 other very smart horses in a Listed event over 1m2f at Newmarket. We have a lot of faith in this horse and hope he can put in a bold show.
Also at Newmarket we have Zaina running in the 1m4f handicap. Like Prince Alzain, we have been waiting for better ground to run her on so are pleased to finally be turning her out. She has been in good shape since her win and has a lot of class about her. We are hoping to see her build on her run at Doncaster and have every confidence that she will.

Heading off north to Thirsk is Hallmark Star who is taking place in a 1m4f maiden. He keeps putting in tremendous efforts and just falling short so we hope tomorrow can be the day he finally gets off the mark. He is a lovely big galloping horse and deserves to get a win by his name. Unbelievably the ground is drying up quickly so we hope it doesn’t dry up too much more.

Dissent is making his racecourse debut of 2012 in a 7f handicap at Doncaster. We are hoping that he settles well enough to see out the trip as he has been known to be a little bit keen in the past. We are very pleased with how he has been training and he looks a million dollars. We have decided to run him in a hood in an effort to help him relax.

Star Date will be rounding up proceedings in a maiden race which carries the £10,000 RP Yearling Bonus. He ran a very nice race at Chester and was perhaps not suited by the ground and possibly the track. In an ideal world we would wait another week or so before running him back but the bonus’s are fast disappearing and we would like to be able to have a go at securing one. He has come out of his Chester race in very good shape though and we are 100% happy with him going into the race.
