Beauchamp Viceroys USA Debut
16/07/2011
Beauchamp Viceroy will be making his American debut today in a 1m allowance race at Arlington Park on the All Weather track. Since arriving in Chicago he has been challenged with one or two niggling issues which we have since ironed out. He has been his usual professional self in training and we are very pleased with him both physically and mentally. The usual head gear will be applied today and we think he will have plenty of speed to lay up with his American rivals over the 1m distance. We are obviously hopeful of a good run from him, but however he fairs today the race will certainly provide him with that extra bit of fitness in preparation for his next target.
This morning we will be working Pachattack, Maristar and Akhmatova and I flew over to the states yesterday to oversee things. All three 3 fillies are in great form and we are very excited about Pachattacks chances in this year’s Beverly D stakes. As you may or may not know, last year in this race Pachattack missed the break by 10 lengths only to be beaten 4 which was incredibly frustrating for all concerned but also provided us with the knowledge that she is more than capable of competing at such a high level.
Joe Le Taxi will be running on Wednesday at Arlington Park. He was due to run today but unfortunately the race did not fill up enough so his run will be delayed until next week. He seems to have freshened up very well over the last month and looks outstandingly well. We hope he will put his best foot forward on Wednesday and put and end to the disappointing run he has endured.
On this side of the Atlantic, Full Bloom made a remarkable comeback to win on the first time of asking since her break. She has been off the track since February due to a nasty injury she encountered in her last run. The break must have been a blessing in disguise as she has grown and strengthened a lot during this time. She can be a little bit lazy in her work at home and only does what is necessary, but she done just enough at Folkestone to score by a head under some encouragement from her jockey Steve Drowne. Fortunately, the handicapper has not crippled her for this win and has marked her sensibly. There are plenty races to be won with her I’m sure and we have made an entry for her to run at Newmarket next Friday evening.
We had a couple of two years old making their debuts earlier on this week. Both ran with lots of promise which is all you can hope for on their first start.
Zain Point went to see the Queen at Windsor and finished at around the half way point of a fairly large field. Having broke well, he travelled very strongly under Dane O’Neil and perhaps just tired slightly in the last furlong. He has come out of the race in very good shape and it has done him no harm what so ever.
Behlul headed north to Southwell and stayed on very well to take 2nd close home. We were sure he would enjoy Southwell as he done a nice piece of work there prior to his race although I am sure he didn’t recall receiving a mouthful of sand of that occasion! He battled through the inevitable kick back and stayed on all the way to the line. We were delighted with his behaviour as many Verglas colts do have tendencies to be hot headed but he has taking the experience very well and will only improve for it.
