An Exciting Weekend

03/06/2010

It is looking to be a very busy weekend.

Beauchamp Xerxes will be on route to Epsom tomorrow to take his place in the line up of the Diomed Stakes. He has come out of his listed win at Goodwood in very good order, I have been very pleased with his training and am hopeful of a big run. It is a very competitive race but I am sure Beauchamp Xerxes and Dane O’Neil can handle the undulations of Epsom, so it should be an exciting race.

We will be heading back to Epsom on Saturday for the Princess Elizabeth stakes where Pachattack will be taking on 8 other fillies. She seems to be in good form and her work during the week was more than satisfactory. How she will handle Epsom – time will tell, but she is a well balance, well moving filly so we hope she will make light work of the track.

Our attentions then turn across the border as Sing Sweetly takes her chance in the Edinburgh Cup. We were 2nd in this race a few years ago, so it has always been on my radar. She is a very progressive filly and has been training particularly well of late. My only concerns would be her lack of experience and being 4lbs out of the handicap, but with an £80,000 prize fund, it is too big an attraction to miss. Jamie Mackay will take the hot seat and she has been drawn well. I think the Mark Johnston trained Corsica will be a hard nut to crack and was very impressive in the Glasgow stakes last time out. However, they have to give a lot of weight away.

Mount Hadley is set to wrap up proceedings for us as he takes on 5 other characters such as himself. The distance is on the outside of his stamina boundaries, but the sharp, speed orientated track should play to his strengths and we are hopeful of a big run. His race also has an attractive prize fund of £8,000.

So, we should be having an exciting weekend, thankfully there is lots of prize money to run for, as you know there is a hole in the prize fund bath tub so we need to get as much of it as we can – as quickly as we can!
