Akhmatova Goes For A Hatrick

23/07/2010

We were highly impressed with Sing Sweetly’s performance on Wednesday. Winning any race by 12 lengths is certainly impressive but the way she moved and her turn of foot bodes well for the future and we fully expect her to fulfil her potential.
We were pleased with Converre’s first effort in a handicap. Tom Queally thinks that she is a nice filly but the ground may of bee slightly on the quick side. With that knowledge, we will wait for better ground and maybe step her up in distance and we are sure it won’t be long before we are picking up a few red rosettes.
We were disappointed not to be able to run Dubai Bounty today. Once again the prevailing fast ground is causing problems for a lot of horses – especially Dubai Bounty. We are prepared to be patient and wait for a safe opportunity.
On Saturday our attention turns to Newmarket and York.
Good Again has a very good chance in a competitive handicap with an attractive prize fund of £25,000. Our only concern is that she has a lot of weight to carry having 10st and not being the biggest of fillies. Martine Lane, who seems to be one of the leading apprentices at the moment will take 3lbs of her back, which is a small help.
Before this, Akhmatova will be strutting her stuff at York. She won impressively at Lingfield last time out, and whilst is it not ideal to turn a horse out so quickly, this is a very nice opportunity for her. The 1 mile 2 furlong’s at York will play to her strengths, and we hope for a very good run.
The week ahead bring Goodwood, a meeting we look forward to all year. We have no runners on Tuesday and Good Again was our only entry for Wednesday so it’s looking likely we will have a quiet first 2 days.
Tinaar could fly the flag for us on Thursday in Lillie Langtry but once again the ground could be a big issue.
Friday we are represented by Beauchamp Xerxes in the £150,000 Goodwood mile.
Pachattack will also have a chance to shine in the Glorious stakes, stepping up for the first time to 1 mile 4 furlongs. Both horses are in very good form and we are looking forward to running them.
We could have 2/3 entries on Saturday in a 1mile 3 furlong handicap, Dubai Bounty, Sing Sweetly and possibly Akhmatova. The last of our runners see’s Elliptical running in a 1 mile 1 furlong apprentice handicap, a race we have won before and also finished a close 2nd in.
